UNESCO Award: Solar Education is a Model for Sustainability

On 28 August 2025, the Federal Ministry of Education and the German Commission for UNESCO awarded the “National Award – Education for Sustainable Development”

Dr. Andrea Ruyter-Petznek, Head of the Department of Education for Sustainable Development in the Federal Ministry of Education, and Dr. Roman

Luckscheiter, Secretary General of the German Commission for UNESCO, honored initiatives such as Solar Education for their outstanding commitment.


The “National Award – Education for Sustainable Development” recognizes organizations, networks, and municipalities that are committed to creating a livable, sustainable society within the framework of the UNESCO ESD 2030 program .

Education plays a key role in this. It empowers people to make informed decisions and better understand and assess the impacts of their actions on future generations and other regions of the world.


The award-winning initiatives impress with innovative educational approaches that

to help shape.


Solar education also impressed the jury with an impressive effort

for Education for Sustainable Development and the Global Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations.


This award makes us really proud and confirms the mission of Solarbildung to show the younger generation ways to shape their own energy future and to tackle current challenges with optimism.

What exactly is UNESCO?


UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It was founded on November 16, 1945. "Since wars are fought in the spirit of people, peace must also be anchored in the minds of people.” is the guiding principle enshrined in the UNESCO Constitution.


What does UNESCO do?
